Galop was delighted to host the new Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, for the launch of the Hate Crime Action Plan today, alongside our CATCH (Community Alliance to Combat Hate) partners- the Monitoring Group, TellMama, Community Security Trust and Choice in Hackney.
Nik Noone, Galop’s Chief Executive said:
We welcome the Home Secretary’s commitment to tackling hate crime against LGBT communities by launching the action plan on a visit to Galop today.
We highlighted the need for victims to have access to specialist support to deal with their experiences of hate crime and get good criminal justice outcomes if this is the option they wish to pursue.
Despite significant strides toward legal equality, homophobic and transphobic violence and abuse is a regular part of many LGBT people’s lives. We encourage LGBT people to tell the police if they see or experience hate crime, or otherwise to talk to us about it.
