Our Statement on Transphobia

Galop condemns all forms of violence and abuse against women, including transphobia and misogyny. All women are entitled to feel safe and respected.

As an LGBT+ anti-violence organisation, It is clear from our direct advocacy work that trans people have seen increasing levels of abuse and threats. Such abuse only compounds the continued barriers faced by LGBT+ victims and survivors trying to access help and support.

Galop believes that the rights of trans and cisgender people should not be placed in juxtaposition to each other. We stand with feminist and trans equality activists in condemning the misinformation and vilification of trans people that has characterised much of the media and online debate on this topic.

Galop believes that the way forward is for communities and organisations to work together towards ensuring all women can live in safety and respect.
