Recruiting: Hate Crime Researcher

Galop is the UK’s leading LGBT+ organisation working to challenge hate crime, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

We are seeking motivated individuals to join our Hate Crime Team. There are two available research roles. These include the following:

  • LGBT+ Hate Crime Researcher (4 days per week – 28 hours)
  • Trans Hate Crime Researcher (1 day per week – 7 hours)

We welcome applicants seeking both these roles as a single full time job. We also welcome applications for one of the above roles as a part time job.

Both roles will focus on the production of qualitative and quantitative research to understand the scale, nature and impact of hate crime. This will involve data gathering, analysis, publication and dissemination.

The LGBT+ Hate Crime Researcher (4 days per week) will be responsible for producing a publication analysing hate incident data, adapting an existing publication on social attitudes toward LGBT+ people, conducting interviews with professionals on hate crime and restorative justice, analysis of responses to a community survey about online hate speech, and organising a policy roundtable meeting of experts.

The Trans Hate Crime Researcher (1 day per week) will conduct research to document and critically consider transphobic hostility in the UK. This will involve formulating a research plan, data gathering, analysis and producing a publication. It is anticipated that this may involve polling, interviews and media analysis.

More detailed information about planned research for both posts is provided in the application pack.

There may be the opportunity for optional international travel as part of these roles.

We are committed to promoting equality and diversity. We particularly welcome applications from BAME people who are currently under-represented among the staff of LGBT+ organisations.
