I’m being harassed

Regular and sustained harassment can take the form of physical, verbal or written abuse, either in person or behind your back.  It can be an exhausting, isolating and scary experience, but we can give you support and advice as well as help you find ways to deal with the harassment.

Read Michelle’s story

Michelle had problems where she lived for years before getting in touch with us. A group of young people had been using homophobic and transphobic names, spitting at her and hassling her sexually. Also, her home had been broken into, messed up and her things stolen which seemed to be linked to the young people.

When she got in touch with us, she was feeling very low, isolated, lacking confidence and too fearful to go outside which meant she kept missing medical appointments.

We supported her back to feeling able to cope, found her a new GP who understood more about her identity and worked with the police to investigate what was happening. She had tried to get moved several times but her housing officer didn’t even return her calls. We worked with her to gather information about her situation and presented a report to her housing provider. After some negotiation she was given a high level of housing priority and had moved after a couple of months to a new home she was happy in.

She said, “Thanks to Galop I have been given a brand new start in life. I’ve got my confidence back and going out isn’t any trouble now. I’m getting involved in the community and trying to get work helping people in my local area. Saying thank you just doesn’t seem enough for the help and support that I’ve been given.”
