Training

Professionals from every sector have a role to play in the journey to a safer future for LGBT+ survivors.

A survivor could be anyone: a colleague; a loved one; a customer; a client, or even a student. By joining our training program, you’ll be expanding your lens of abuse and gaining invaluable skills which will allow you to empower the LGBT+ people who need it most.

We’ve advocated for the LGBT+ community for over 40 years. Our trainings are evidence-based, trauma-informed and reflect the unique experiences of tens of thousands of LGBT+ survivors of abuse. We understand how identities related to faith, race, age, disability, class, intersect with gender identity and orientation, and how by investing in your organisation’s capacity for inclusion, you can improve outcomes for LGBT+ people across the UK.

Please fill out this initial form or email training@galop.org.uk to arrange an initial call to talk through your LGBT+ development goals.

We provide training across a wide range of expertise, including:

  • LGBT+ identities and terminology
  • Anti-LGBT+ hate crime
  • Domestic abuse
  • Sexual violence
  • So-called ‘conversion therapy’
  • Senior leadership development
  • LGBT+ young people’s experiences of abuse

We educate professionals from every sector to recognise and reframe how their work might intersect with LGBT+ survivor experiences. Our training offers an open space which allows organisations to collaboratively explore how to respond, support, and connect to the LGBT+ community in a meaningful way.

A Galop training will help you to understand the intersectional challenges faced by LGBT+ survivors of abuse, see the key role your organisation can play in reducing barriers to speaking out, collaboratively build actions and gain invaluable best practices skills relevant to your work. By the end of the session, your team will have been given the skills for newfound confidence and capacity for impactful change-making.

All of Galop’s trainings are LGBT+ specialist and bespoke; we don’t just want to help you understand LGBT+ survivors and their unique experiences, we want to help you build a knowledge base about LGBT+ experiences of abuse which is relevant to the challenges faced by your organisation, and how to grow through advocacy and allyship.

Galop can also deliver keynote speeches and take part in panel discussions. These can be in the context of conferences, equality and diversity events or other activities.

The trainer was very engaging, full of expert knowledge and had a wonderful way of discussing challenging topics. I loved the online interactive activities and the information. [It was a] really useful and enjoyable training.
